Make Peace:

is a continuous, evolving letter through the lens of Black Matriarchal lineage. By exploring the personal and the universal, Make Peace asks difficult yet necessary questions about the journey to Freedom within the context of our personal and collective bodies.

I [saylem m. celeste (they/themme)] am a Detroit-born and based Care Practitioner/Freedom Worker who utilizes art, conversation, and sound for collective liberation and healing. I embrace quilting in my practice as a core methodology to circumvent symptoms of Western carceral cultures and as a means to access Freedom for traditionally misrepresented communities.

I am a multi-modal artist- using creative methods to trek closer to truth and questioning. I am a Quilter, Writer, Zine-Maker, Music Producer, Record Label head, DJ, and Teacher, amongst other methods of craft.

I am a steward of Midnight Care Collective, a creative collective rooted in Black Matriarchal Traditions, and Blue Moon Radio, an experiment in community-based music experiences and expressions. These social practices aim to return to cultures of care and integrity within the extracted landscape of Detroit and the larger context of Midwestern histories and lineages.

I am currently transitioning to return to creative work as my primary focus.

MAKE PEACE is a place to witness the rhythm of creative practice and unravel the complexities of applying transformative theory to real life. With this Substack, I plan to steward a space that is a mess, to find discovery, to begin discovering what it can mean to Make Peace with what is, what has been, and what can be. Thank you for joining me in my corner of the internet~!
